ABOUT HOCKEY-
Hockey is a sport in which two teams play against each other by trying to man oeuvre a ball or puck into the opponent's goal using a hockey stick. There are many types of hockey like Field hockey, Ice Hockey...etc. Hockey is considered as the NATIONAL SPORT of INDIA.
LET'S TALK ABOUT FACTS RELATED TO HOCKEY-
#1. INDIAN HOCKEY FEDERATION (IHF) was formed on November 7, 1925 at Gwalior. In 1928 India joined the INTERNATIONAL HOCKEY FEDERATION (FIH) becoming the first Non-European member of FIH.
#2. Indian hockey teams were the first Indian sports team to ever set foot in AUSTRALIA/NEW ZEALAND (1926), EUROPE (1928) and JAPAN/USA (1932).
#3. In 1932 Indian hockey team was also the first Indian sports team to do around the world tour. They played matches in COLOMBO, MALAYA, TOKYO, LOS ANGELS, OMAHA, PHILADELPHIA, AMSTERDAM, BERLIN, PRAGUE and BUDAPEST, before triumphantly returning to the shores of India.
#4. Since 1944, National Hockey Championship is organised by the IHF every year.
#5. All India Women's Federation was formed in 1947.
#6. Field hockey in India refers to two teams, that is INDIAN Men's NATIONAL TEAM and INDIAN Women's NATIONAL TEAM.
#7. India took part in OLYMPICS for the first time in 1928 in AMSTERDAM OLYMPICS, winning the GOLD MEDAL. In Olympics, India has won the hockey title a maximum of 8 times.
#9. India won the 1975 HOCKEY WORLD CUP in KUALA LUMPUR, MALASIA.
